About Us
Valley Heritage is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2015, aiming to breathe new life into Rossendale’s heritage. We are a group of volunteers with a passion for our local area, seeking creative approaches to bring historic buildings back into use whilst supporting the growth and development of the local community.
Finding Purpose
We recognise that there are many buildings across the valley in need of help, and we’re dedicated to finding new purposes for those places we’re at risk at losing forever. Whilst we can’t win every battle, we’re seeking to support the re-use and regeneration of historic buildings across the valley that are unlikely to be viable within the private sector due to the cost of repair being significantly higher than the end value.
For these projects, we are dependent on public funding, from a variety of sources, to support the work from inception to delivery.
Our Goal
Challenges are facing our historic environment across the country, and Rossendale is no exception. Our long-term goal at Valley Heritage is to create a strategy for tackling these buildings and places that are at risk, particularly addressing their commercial viability and bringing them back into sustainable use.
In essence: we want to collaborate with other organisations to find ways to help these places make enough money to continue operating in a way that makes a positive contribution to their local community.
Partnerships
We firmly believe in working in partnership and are dedicated to building positive relationships across the Valley. We work with private companies, property developers, local authorities, other charities, local community groups, and land and building owners.
This network of people helps us to find the right solution for a particular building. When a building is used and cared for in a way that is sustainable and positive, it has a ripple effect and can help support the regeneration of the place around it.
Rich Rossendale
Rossendale is rich with heritage and historic places, which we believe is key to making it prosperous. The character of these places is unique and special, and they have a significant role to play in our 21st-century lives… and beyond!

What We’re Working On
Our work encompasses quite the range – we’re always working on multiple projects as there is so much to be done. From helping find a new purpose for St John the Evangelist in Crawshawbooth to supporting mosaic restoration work over in Haslingden, it’s fair to say we get across the valley!
