Our Team

The trustees, volunteers and staff at Valley Heritage bring a wide range of experience, expertise, and personal interests. We recognise our strength is as a team, recognising each person’s unique contribution. We are seeking to collaborate with all people across the Valley and beyond, to create a network and a safety net for Rossendale’s heritage.

Stephen Anderson

Chairperson

Stephen is an architect by training, and a building nerd by nature. As the chair of Valley Heritage, Stephen can put his 20 years of professional experience, working on some of the most important buildings across the country, into good practice. Stephen is always seeking innovative solutions to problems and believes that a people-focussed approach is the best way to make a difference to both buildings and communities.

In his spare time, you’ll find him walking his dog around Bacup, taking cool pictures of castles, or obsessing over Star Wars.

Rachael Gildert

Secretary

Rachael is a Landscape Architect with 18 years’ experience, working in and around the North West. Her projects have a strong community emphasis, seeking to find what makes a place distinctive and valuable to its community. She’s always looking for ways to explore, protect, grow and improve what makes a place special and unique.

As you might imagine, Rachael likes to spend her spare time in the garden, walking around the moors… or bug hunting with her young son.

Heather Cudworth

Treasurer

Heather has a degree in geography with a focus on heritage and the built environment which she channels into her work at Valley Heritage. She is a planning co-ordinator for a telecoms company, and a Prince2 certified project manager, bringing a broad range of experience to the table.

Outside of work and Valley Heritage, Heather is a Rainbow Leader for her local Girlguides.

Barry Reynolds

Trustee

Barry joined us in 2020, bringing a wealth of heritage project experience from the last 15 years. His project highlights include Lindisfarne Castle and Quarry Bank for the National Trust (his day job!) and the Piece Hall Transformation in Halifax. Barry works with a wide range of groups, from large charities and public sector organisations, to local community trusts, with a focus on building resilience and partnerships through heritage.

Outside of work, you’ll see him darting over Marsden Moor on mountain bikes with his children, and he can turn his hand to woodturning (in his own cellar-workshop!)

What We’re Working On

Our work encompasses quite the range – we’re always working on multiple projects as there is so much to be done. From helping find a new purpose for St John the Evangelist in Crawshawbooth to supporting mosaic restoration work over in Haslingden, it’s fair to say we get across the valley!
